Suggestions for the Sensitive and Cultured Angler

This list contains items from history, Walker's masterpiece, and works that require the reader to have an appreciation of Nature, and not just the weighing scales.

The Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton
The first, and possibly most famous angling book of all. Essential reading.

Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing by Bernard Venables
A book for the younger angler in many ways. But it can still be enjoyed by the more seasoned amongst us. I would say this is optional reading.

Confessions of a Carp Fisher by B B
Published initially in 1950, this wonderfully written book gives us an insight into carp angling over half a century ago. It is a delightful series of
stories, places, memories and advice. Essential for the historian, optional for others.

Still-Water Angling by Richard Walker
Possibly the second most angling book ever written. It showed anglers that it is possible to target large fish. Essential reading.

The Secret Carp by Chris Yates
Chris Yates has a place amongst the angling greats, and this work allows us to see inside the angling philosophy he has developed over time.

How To Fish by Chris Yates
Mr Yates develops and explains his life and angling philosophies whilst we spend some time on the river looking for Perch.

More to follow ...
