As the title suggests, this is a book that seeks to provide practice advice to help the reader catch more and bigger carp. It is very nicely written and covers every aspect of carp angling as it was in the early 1990's.
As it is a practical guide, it does not go into too much detail on subjects such as boillie making and advanced rigs. It tries to keep its feet firmly on the floor and offers up tips, hints, and techniques that are sensible and rooted in common sense and experience.
It covers everything from water craft, Winter fishing, long range fishing, to how to play, land, and hold a fish.
And Julian clearly knows what he is doing.
Where the book falls down, and this is not the author's fault, is that when it comes to discussing tackle, it is 15 years out of date. So all advice, warnings, and recommendations with regards to rods, reels and the like, is not really helpful as the world of tackle has made huge advances since the book went to print.
Having said that, some things for carp anglers remain the same and always will - water craft for example. I can therefore recommend this book, but would advise you to skim over those sections that have had time pass them by.
I hope this review has proved useful to you.
